Freebase vape juice: the long-standing standard

Freebase nicotine is the form used in e-liquid since vaping began. Because the draw is more open, freebase e-liquid at high strengths can feel harsh, which is part of why it's usually formulated lower.

Nicotine salts: a different formulation, not a different flavor category

Nicotine salt e-liquid uses nicotine bound with an acid (commonly benzoic acid), a formulation that tends to feel smoother at higher strengths than freebase nicotine does at the same level. That's the main reason salt e-liquid is usually sold at higher strengths and paired with low-wattage MTL pod systems like the Vaporesso XROS 5 or UWELL Caliburn G4 Pro rather than sub-ohm mods — the tighter draw and lower wattage suit how salt nicotine is absorbed and how it feels.

PG and VG: the other half of the equation

Every e-liquid is a mix of propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG) as its base. Higher-PG mixes tend to carry flavor more sharply and produce less vapor, which is common in salt e-liquid built for pod systems. Higher-VG mixes are thicker and produce denser vapor, which is why sub-ohm freebase juice generally leans VG-heavy.
